Things I LOVE Thursday

I have been thinking about this for a few days... about things that I LOVE for our homeschool. One thing is a GREAT pencil sharpener.
We purchased this a few weeks ago when our electric one went down.... again. UGH! Never again will I buy an electric. This is the way to go baby!!!
I LOVE this pencil sharpener!
Next up...
What else would you need with an awesome pencil sharpener, than PENCILS!
Without a doubt these pencils live up to their claim... they are the World's BEST PENCIL!
I know that it is easy to be swayed by cute pencils with clever words, but don't be fooled.
The Dixon Ticonderoga pencil sharpens beautifully and has awesome erasers, that actually erase when needed!
So, it may be silly... but these are two things I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE for our homeschool.
Stay tuned for next weeks, Things I LOVE Thursday!

At first sight

Imagine our excitement to finally see one of these around the house.
We love scouting out birds and looking for ones we have never seen before.
Let me just say, this fella was BIG!
I mean really big!
Here is a link about him

Pileated Woodpecker

God has such an imagination... and I am so happy to witness it.

Have a beautiful day.

Breakfast Sandwich

Our family loves pancakes.
I have shared with you our basic pancake recipe because it makes such a bulk of batter, we have enough and more for a couple more breakfasts throughout the week.
One thing I tried recently is a breakfast sandwich.
Similar to a McGriddle, but you made it yourself. So you KNOW what is in it! J
Decide on what you would like.
My personal favorite is Swiss Cheese and Turkey.
Ham, Bacon, Sausage, Egg, Cheese, even some hashbrowns would be good.
Get your pancakes and your cooked fillings and assemble.
One pancake on bottom, your fillings, one pancake on top and add syrup.
It is a delightful breakfast that our family loves.
Enjoy!

Finding Beauty

Recently a message board that I frequent has been talking about seeking out the lovely, finding the beautiful, or creating whimsy.
I have felt that I am one that seeks these things out on a daily basis... although at times we get so harried and busy that the beauty fades.
I have been reminded how I ache for this. I love seeing the beautiful in the simple. The glory in the mundane. The joy in the little.
I am completely surrounded by it every. single. day.
Now, don't get me wrong. There is the ugly, the uglier and the ugliest ALL around me as well. In all honesty, there are things that are right beside my home that it almost brings me to tears because it is so unsightly. But, the point is to look past the bad and see the good.
It's hard.
Really, really hard sometimes.

So, it is time to seek out the lovely. Search for the beautiful and embrace the joy.
The Lord has blessed us tremendously... count your blessings. Name them one by one.
Make time to understand the true joy of finding the beauty in these days that the Lord has made.

My journal will be here.

About the picture:
My daughter who is 6 was helping me put away the potatoes from the 10 lb bag we were given. While reaching in I pulled out this potato! She said, "Mom! It looks just like a heart!" "I know!" I replied.
She then said, "It's just another way that God shows us, He loves us!"
Right then, I melted and Praised the Maker for His love and mercy.

Custom-made for a Cowgirl

I was contacted a week or two ago and asked to make a cowgirl costume for a little lady turning 3. She is having a cowgirl party and needed an outfit to go with it.
I took a pair of jeans and made cut them the length that I needed for the skirt. I sewed them together and then added a fringe edging of *cow* material, some rick rack and a little pocket on the back.
The vest has a *cow* fabric ruffle with rickrack and a hand stitched cow. :)
It was an interesting request, but I am pleased with the outcome. Best of all, when the little one received the outfit and her Mama asked her what she thought, she said... "I LOVE IT!"
Yeah. :)
I surprised myself with this one, pleasantly surprised.

A sunflowery gift

Over the weekend, I was blessed with such a surprise. I signed up for a Pay-It-Forward handmade gift exchange a few months back. My first gift was given on Saturday.
It. Is. GORGEOUS!!!
Lemme show you! :)

Isn't it lovely?
It is an appliqued sunflower. Her Uncle built a frame and she attached the quilted block on to the frame. It is so beautiful and it looks perfect in my home.
What was especially sweet is that she told me she browsed my blog to find something that I would like.
Such a blessing.
Thank you, Teresa! You made my day!

Happy Spring!

Happy, Happy Spring!
It is absolutely beautiful around here with all the blooming flowers, trees and green grass growing.  Warmer weather proves to mean busy, busy around the homestead. The animals are lively and the chickens are laying beautifully. The children are eager to get outside more, as is the Moma. :)
There is fencing to be completed, there is gardens needing to be planted. Busy times indeed.
Amidst all the busy-ness we need to keep our focus on all the blessings that surround us. It is easy to be so busy we forget.
So, from us to you!
May your Springtime be beautiful!

On my mind: This Moment 3/18/11

On my mind: this moment:
My family, my ministry, my legacy.
After a strange happening I realized the brevity of life, how we have moments to live and breathe and serve. We have those who need us, look to us and depend on us.
We are but a vapor and we want to make it count.
May my life be one that is spent loving, serving and living. May the light of Jesus SHINE through me.

A Secret Blessing

Some sweet soul left me a little encouragement present on the pew that we normally sit on at church...
A beautiful flower pot, an African Violet, and some wonderful kitchen soap, but the sweetest part.
Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Mamie gets some attention

With all this baby lovin going on, Mamie has been a bit on the defense.
What about me?
Of course we adore our big girl... even when she acts a bit like a *ahem* spoiled brat :)
She's still our girl. :)

On my mind: 3/11/11

On my mind:

On my mind today is handmade gifts. I have a couple of friends who just celebrated their birthday. I wanted to give them a thoughtful gift.
So this is what I have in the works.
Something new for me, something useful and beautiful for them.
Look for finished pictures coming next week.

My mind and prayers are also with those who are affected by the tragic earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the Pacific.

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

Oh, how I love yellow. It makes me smile.
It brightens my mood.... always has.
Consider my rapture when I spotted these yellow beauties at the Goodwill just two days prior, for half price. In perfectly beautiful condition, although considerably old. SCORE!
They are sheer enough to let the sunshine burst through... Even on the cloudiest and rainest of days.
During the rain:
And after:
Lovely, eh?
Yeah, let the sun shine.
My Cameo asked me, "Mom, don't you think it might be a little TOO much yellow?"
To which I reply, "Is that even possible?"
I'm afraid not.
