{{thankful thursday 10.28.10}}

  • happy kids.  Even when they don't behave perfectly (nor do I expect them to) they are such happy children, it makes me feel extremely blessed.
  • safety from some VERY scary storms that raged around our area lately.
  • a fresh batch of cookies, just because I want to bless my family.
  • a home that keeps us nice and cozy when the weather outside is cold and blustery.
  • family who is always there for  you no matter what!
  • 57 days til Christmas! :)

A Handmade Dress

With the thoughts of Christmas buzzing around in my head and a baby shower over the weekend, I set out to do a little sewing. I had something in my mind and thankfully, it came out almost perfectly.
I can just imagine it on the little doll I made it for.
Totally scrumptious.

Which got me to thinking about how sweet this little outfit came together. I need to be working on my own Dumplin (Carlie Jean)'s winter wardrobe.
Now to see if I have any more delicious fabric to make my own little doll some sweet little dresses.

Crazy Lady here

Hello Friends!
I am guessing you might be wondering where I have been or what I have been up to.
It has been wild around here. First with a super duper busy weekend and then a dental emergency from hades.
Short story there is I had a bad tooth. One that needed extraction.
Tooth broke at our local dentist.
Had to be worked in at an oral surgeon.
Tooth had to be dug the rest of the way out.
In which all this = $$$ and PAIN
ugh
But, I am hopeful that I will feel right as rain soon again.
In the meantime if I say something super silly, I blame the pain meds.
And if I am absent,  I am probably snuggling with my children or taking a nap.
Hopefully I will find my camera and be back with you soon to show you the sweetest little dress I made over the weekend.
Total love.
Until then....

{{thankful thursday}}

I am feeling grateful right now (as I should be always)... I am looking at the bright side. I want to see what is beautiful in my life, not what is troubling.
Here are a few of the things I am so thankful for...

My children, and educating my children at home. It is one of the hardest things I have ever done, but it is SUCH a blessing and I wouldn't change it for the world. I love.love.love it! :)

A WONDERFUL time with friends and family last weekend at our home!

My little budding artist that loves to use bright colors and is always eager to make something for someone.

My first carrot!!!
I have not successfully grown carrots before now! Hurrah!

This husband of mine.
He is so good to me and loves me despite all my flaws.
...and he is an AMAZING father!

What are you thankful for today?

Celebrating Life

I wish I could tell you that the above picture is one from my kitchen.
Nope... it isn't.
The family and I are having a CELEBRATE life party on Saturday.
We haven't had birthday parties for the children like we usually do. Now, don't get me wrong, we have a special time with each child on their day with our little family... but nothing big like we have done in the past.
So my dear husband suggested a 'family party' earlier this summer. A party where we invite ALL our friends and family and just enjoy being together. We all LOVED the idea and soon began discussing when we would have the party.
Our initial plan was to have the party at the end of September, but honey was out of town with his brother, so that was out. We started tossing around days and finally said...
How about Saturday? :)
And that is how it is.... this Saturday we will have our party. Welcoming our friends, family and neighbors into our home and just having a joyous time celebrating another year that the Lord has blessed us with.
I hope to have lots of pictures and plenty of stories once the weekend is over.
Also,
DON'T forget to enter in the giveaway!!!
If I get 100 followers before Sunday night, I am going to sweeten the prize by adding a few more goodies! :)

A visit to Plains, GA

Over the weekend we took a trip to Plains, GA for Shannon's family reunion.  When I knew for sure we were going, I went into 'homeschool Mom' mode and tried to see what we could learn during the trip. Thankfully, Plains has a LOT of history. It is the home of our 39th President, Jimmy Carter.
The picture above was taken at the General Store that was located on his boyhood farm.
My kind of store. :)
Carlie Jean needed to use the facilities. ;) haha
(Not really, I begged her to pose for this picture because of my warped sense of humor)
We had a chance to do a little cotton pickin.
Is anyone else amazed at that little plant?!?!?!
The kids and Aunt Christy were grinding up some corn for the farm animals.
The Park Ranger was incredibly friendly and had a lot of information to share with us. He was also nice enough to take our picture.
Abram decided that he liked him a lot and asked him over to the reunion. :)
He didn't show. haha

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Lookie, Lookie what we found!
We had no idea she was setting. It was a complete surprise! :)

Here is my little worker.
Feeding the chickens is one of his morning chores.
He was especially excited to feed them this morning, so he could visit the babies.
Two more additions to the homestead... what a blessing! :)

Friday Night Homecoming

Last Friday we went to our hometown Homecoming game.
I *heart* the band!
My Tristan Blane wearing team colors and standing for the National Anthem.
The football players surprised us with new uniforms.
My Niece Taylor trying to comfort our little cousin Belle, bless her bones.
Woodlawn's Homecoming Queen.
Our Pastor said Sunday morning that the judges may have made another girl our hometown homecoming queen, but our church had their own homecoming queen.... and I couldn't agree more! :)

Soup warms the soul

With this lovely cool weather, it is time to get our soup on!
Tomato soup is a favorite of ours for lunch... or supper. Perfect with some crusty bread or crunchy cheesy bread!
We make this soup often for lunch. It is that easy and that good. You could add some small pasta to make it more like a spaghetti-o type treat (only SOOOO much better for you) :)

Tomato Soup

1 29 oz can of diced tomatoes or a quart of your canned tomatoes YUM!
1 10 1/2 oz can of condensed chicken stock but homemade is BETTER!
2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp onion chopped fine
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 cups of heavy cream
I also added a little organic ketchup to make it a bit more tomato-ey!!

Simmer all ingredients except cream together in a stock pot for 1 hour.
Add cream and take a hand blender or whatever type of blender you have to puree your soup.

Serve Hot with some homemade bread!!!

Enjoy!
